Giving Thanks: Day 3
“For he has rescued us from the kingdom of darkness and transferred us into the Kingdom of his dear Son, who purchased our freedom and forgave our sins.”
Colossians 1:13-14 NLT
“In him, we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace”
Ephesians 1:7 NIV
Close your eyes and imagine the moments leading right up to Jesus’s arrest. He was in the Garden of Gethsemane, praying in agony as He knew exactly what was about to happen. Everything He had known for the years of His ministry was about to be flipped upside down. He knew that this was why He was brought to earth, and so He was then arrested, abandoned by His disciples, brutally beaten, and brought to trial. He then carried upon His bloody, whipped, and scarred back, the cross that He would be nailed to. His sides were pierced and His body was then crucified as an atonement for our sins.
Today I am thankful for the blood of Jesus that set me free. I know that I am forgiven of my sins and that God is not done with me! My best days are yet to come. Jesus paid the full price to buy us back—to redeem us—from condemnation to sin. He offered it to us freely, but it wasn’t free. It cost him everything.
I challenge you to sit with that idea of that freedom for a while today. Thank Jesus for what He did for you. Then allow humility, gratefulness, and worship into your heart. He has redeemed us!
