Giving Thanks Day 1: Being Grateful
Psalms 118:24 NLT
“This is the day the Lord has made.” We will rejoice and be glad in it.”
Joyful people are grateful people. We can be thankful for the big things in life; a new job, our spouse, children, good health, close friends, etc. But are you grateful for the little things in your life?
Right now I am grateful for the sound of a baby snoring and the look of peace on her face as she sweetly slumbers. This past year, I took on a new position as a nanny for a family with two young children. This part-time job has allowed me to be more available for my family and created some much-needed margin in my life. Seeing life through the eyes of a young child has also helped me to slow down and see the beauty in the ordinary. Ecclesiastes 3:11 NIV describes that “He has made everything beautiful in its time.” We can find joy in the simple moments of our day.
In addition, the Bible states to “give thanks in all circumstances for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” (1 Thes 5:18 NIV) While it is certainly easy to be grateful for the positive changes in our lives, can you exhibit thankfulness during moments of difficulty? For me, I am glad to be another year older and wiser. While I don’t always like how my body feels at times due to my age and the major surgery I had 18 months ago, I am glad to experience another year walking with the Lord.
So with this week being the week of Thanksgiving in the United States, take some time to reflect and discover what is one little thing you are grateful for? I would love for you to comment and share!
